A Naked Girl on the Appian Way [A]

This one's a keeper - see it if at all possible. The plot is so complicated that I won't even try to address that here, but it's a very, very funny show with a dash of touching and more than a dash of (at least for folks my age) self-examination of the events and theories that make us who we are. And, to top it off, the acting is very good (wonderful facial expressions - some might call it mugging). And as an added bonus (I sound like a Ronco salesman) the set is spectacularly beautiful.

Once Around the Sun [B-]

This show is a lot of fun. It's trite and predictable, but I think) that is it's intention. Trite or not, the music is good, the antics are entertaining, and it's worth going just for the second scene. This scene, in which the band does a wedding gig, is one of the best crafted, funniest scenes of the entire year (maybe the decade) - and it's well acted to boot.

Another reason to go: if you've never been to the Zipper theatre, it's a fun theatre to go to.

Philadelphia, Here I Come [B+]

This revival of an old Brian Friel play is quite good. The acting is very good, and the play itself is thought-provoking. It's one of those plays that I'm getting to like more and more where nothing dramatic happens, but there's much to think about. If this play doesn't make you think about some small but 'important' event in your youth, I'd be surprised.
